Is your little corner of the world blazing hot these days? We welcome you to Cozumel to enjoy the refreshing waters of the Mexican Caribbean. Dive with Martin will spoil you rotten and give you the best diving experience ever for your 2022 summer vacation.
As we celebrate summertime, we want to applaud our staff and dedicate this newsletter to our beloved DWM team members. We want you to know who is behind the scenes and in the front-line operations of the Dive with Martin family.
First off, we have three new DWM family members to introduce. These three came to DWM with strong skill sets and a great desire to work. They are friendly, humble and professional and have fit in beautifully with staff and our divers. Their positive energy has greatly enhanced our wonderful DWM staff.
Yahir, age 22, was born in Cozumel on June 29, 2000. Yahir tells us that with the support of his mother, Katy Garnica, and his father, the beloved DWM Captain Jorge Mendoza Moguel, aka Moguelazo, he has been able to carry out his dream of becoming a Ship Captain. His father, Jorge, or Moguelazo, has 36 years of experience on the ocean. It is a great advantage that Yahir has the support of his father, as well as the support and encouragement of Julio Aguilar (owner of DWM). He says they both motivated him to learn and practice every day. Yahir started with DWM as a sailor (boat hand) during the pandemic. On several occasions, DWM donated a boat and crew to CIMAC, a local volunteer organization focused on environmentally protecting the seas, to remove garbage from the ocean floor around the cruise ship docks. Yahir helped out on these trips and points out "that it was not an easy task, but not impossible either."
Yahir shared that during his childhood, his father took him on the boat with him at night and let him maneuver the boat. He feels like boating is in his blood and is proud of the fact that he has gone from sailor to boat captain in a little more than a year. “It's awesome!” he claims.
Yahir is a genuinely nice guy! He loves people and is always smiling. He likes to be greeted enthusiastically and he responds in kind. Yahir is the future of DWM and we are happy to have him with us. Welcome, Captain!!
Oscar Andrés is another local addition to our staff. He was born in Cozumel the year of Hurricane Gilberto in 1988. He likes to be called by his second name, so from now on he will be Andrés.
Since he was a child, Andrés has been an inveterate lover of the sea and everything related to it. However, he clarifies "I am also a friend of rivers, cenotes and lagoons." Although he loves pure water, if you strike up a conversation with him, he will likely talk about his favorite hobbies: photography, bike rides, gardening, and music.
He surprised us when he shared that his passion is music and he has a new album coming out in October!! So, let's keep an eye out for Andrés' album, and wish him the best of luck in his artistic career and hope that he will stay a long time with DWM.
Joaquin, 33 years old, was born on the Atlantic Coast of Argentina, in the city of Pinamar. He is another refreshing addition to the dive operation of DWM. Joaquin is full of dreams for life in his new adopted country. He loves and respects Mexico and wants to give his all to make his native and adopted countries proud.
Joaquín’s home city of Pinamar, Argentina was where his love of the ocean started. He experienced the sea with his family and a deep love for nature and marine life was born.
When Joaquín was twenty years old, he had the opportunity to travel to Brazil. He lived there for five years and trained to become a dive instructor. He currently lives on the island with his partner, Aldana, and is very happy to work at Dive with Martin. Joaquín brings a fantastic skill set and personality that is reflected in his role as an Instructor and Dive Master. On behalf of DWM, we wish Joaquin the best in his new job with us. We know you are going to love diving with him!
To finish this off...
On behalf of all the members of Dive With Martin, we want to let you know, you are ALL a part of this family! We appreciate your visits and the trust you have placed in us. We are committed to serving you with passion and skill, with safety and with a deep knowledge and respect for the ocean and its ecosystems. The pandemic rocked our world, but we are dedicated to remaining at the forefront of new demands on tourism and the diving industry. We are certain that the changes we have made are for the better and we are all moving forward, TOGETHER!
Sending a big hug from all of us – come see us soon!
