Did you know that Dive with Martin is supporting a research project on documenting sharks' presence in Isla Cozumel?
For a year, Mar Sustentable nonprofit has been documenting the presence of sharks on the island over time. This research is carried out by collecting the traditional knowledge of fishermen and divers from Cozumel. Through this information, we obtain essential sites and reports of the presence of sharks on the island. With this information, our team carries out underwater explorations in different diving and fishing sites that we have characterized as crucial for the presence of sharks. We visit these sites periodically, and in these, we observe the physical environment and the species.
Our friends' collaboration, support, and friendship at Dive With Martin have been crucial to making our underwater investigations a success.
Soon Mar Sustentable's team will be presenting our preliminary research results at the Sharks International 2022 Conference that will take place in Valencia, Spain. The international Shark scientific community from around the world will be presenting their research there.
This project is being led by Dr. Nadia Rubio, who received a research award from the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) Education for Nature Program (EFN)
